Chromogranin A is a member of the Granin family and is expressed by a variety of endocrine, neuroendocrine, and neuronal cells. Cleavage of Chromogranin A generates several biologically active peptides including vasostatins 1 and 2, chromofungin, chromacin, pancreastatin, catestatin, WE14, chromostatin, GE25, parastatin, and serpinin. Chromogranin A is also an auto-antigen in models of non-obese diabetes and modified forms of the WE14 fragment may represent the main antigenic component.
