ACTH (1-24) is a fragment of Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH, also known as corticotropin). ACTH is secreted by the anterior pituitary gland and is often produced in response to stress. ACTH controls the release of glucocorticoid hormones and enhances the transcription of mitochondial genes for oxidative phosphorylation. ACTH (1-24) is a smaller fragment of ACTH produced by cleavage of POMC (proopimelanocortin) which maintains full biological activity.
