Ac-DEVD-AFC is a fluorogenic substrate for caspase-3. Caspase-3 is a protease that is rapidly activated during apoptosis and that cleaves several substrates, including poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP). Cleavage of Ac-DEVD-AFC is monitored by measuring an increase in fluorescence signal due to AFC cleavage. The excitation and emission maxima for AFC are 400 nm and 505 nm, respectively.
